Canadian schools, Service Groups and Clubs are challenged
to inspire their children and young adults to collect a Loonie
or spare change to help build Oleleshwa Primary School in
Kenya.
By investing in Oleleshwa Primary
School, through the “Change 4 Change” Campaign,
your child or student’s Loonie will
benefit a community and its children for years to come. The
following suggestions will assist you with starting your
campaign:
| 1. |
Each student, staff member of a school, or
club member might be encouraged to bring in one Loonie to
assist those who live on less than a dollar a day. |
| 2. |
Classrooms or clubs may want to set a target
amount of loonies and challenge other groups
to meet or beat them. |
| 3. |
Loose change Drive: Students, staff
members and clubs may set a fifteen or thirty day time
limit and set out Change 4 Change jars
to collect spare change in this time frame. |
Harambee 4 Humanity has witnessed “first
hand” the power of a dollar at work
for families living in poverty on “Less
than a dollar a day”. Change
4 Change will provide a wonderful opportunity
to raise awareness about environmental issues impacting
developing countries, to examine and discuss “The
United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child” and
to explore the root causes of poverty that affect children
worldwide. By giving a “Loonie”, by
contributing their spare change or giving
up a personal “want”, children will see their
kindness transform the lives of others. Harambee
4 Humanity’s mission is to support activities
or outcomes that can be sustained beyond the duration of
its immediate involvement.
Gravenhurst P.S., Macaulay P.S., Pine Glen P.S., & the
Orillia Christian School have already demonstrated
how their grassroots fundraising efforts can yield powerful
results. To date, they have enabled H4H to:
| • |
Purchase and plant over 1500 indigenous and
passion fruit trees; |
| • |
Establish community gardens for much needed food crops; |
| • |
Purchase sewing machines and sergers to start small businesses
for women; |
| • |
Purchase the materials necessary to construct the 7km
fence surrounding Oleleshwa Primary School grounds which
was completed in April 2009. |
Help us meet our target of $40,000.00! Your
school or club’s contribution will guarantee that boys
and girls in Ewaso Ngiro, Kenya will achieve their true potential
and will be able to actively participate in their political,
economic, environmental, technological and creative world.
All this can become a reality through the “Change
4 Change” Campaign.
Gravenhurst Public School teacher and H4H Director, Kyla McMullen-Dent,
will be joined by a team of retired teachers to participate
in and report back on the construction of Oleleshwa Primary
School beginning February 2010. Please follow our blog
for updates and see your contribution put to work!
