Harambee
4 Humanity and our in-country partners have witnessed first-hand
the impact of the excitement, curiosity, and kindness of
school staff and students. Thank you to the many schools
that have been making contributions and collaborating with
the Kenyan communities to create change and provide hope
to children and youth. You are truly “Linking
Hands Through Action”!
Working with Harambee 4 Humanity will present many
learning opportunities. Meet curriculum expectations, raise
global awareness and foster character development by getting
involved with our current projects!
Get Involved…
- Book a presentation for classrooms, staff professional
development days, or build on character education and leadership
initiatives. Topics include: Kenyan wildlife, urban and rural
communities, education and its role in creating secure societies,
gender roles, and environmental issues such as deforestation,
soil erosion, and scarcity of water;
- Join our Change4Change campaign;
- In lieu of teacher gifts – donate to H4H and build
a school in Ewaso Ngiro, Kenya. The gift of education, in
the name of your teacher, will honour his/her devotion
to students, and provide a gift that will keep on giving;
Create crafts to be sold in the school community, craft
shows or farmers’ markets. To date, schools have
designed bookmarks and zipper pulls made from hemp, beads
or wool, angel ornaments made from pasta, beaded bracelets,
beaded key chains, and backpack accessories, napkin rings
and glass markers made from costume jewellery and beads. Students
have benefitted from gaining business and public speaking
skills;
- Host a used book sale;
- Student raffles with prizes donated from the community;
- Organize a yard sale in the school gym or on school grounds. Invite
local crafters to rent a table for a small fee. Such an event
will promote environmental responsibility through the spirit
of re-using or recycling as well as benefitting children
and youth in Kenya;
- Organize dances with a portion of the proceeds directed
to H4H;
- Carry water jugs while walking on school grounds or the
school track to represent the young girls and women who walk
long distances to fetch water. Raise money through sponsors;
- In lieu of retirement gifts – honour the legacy of
a special retiree by donating to H4H. His or her contributions
will be honoured with a gift that will create lasting change
for countless children;
- Organize a student art exhibit and auction;
- Create gift baskets to sell or raffle. For example, a school
combined Pampered Chef bowls with cooking ingredients to
create beautiful gift items to sell;
- Encourage students to write short notes to accompany their
fundraising efforts. These notes can be delivered to our
Kenyan communities;
- Sale of magazines;
- Organize a guest speaker or author to visit your school
and explore topics related to developing nations;
- Research and discuss The United Nations Convention
on the Rights of the Child;
- Visit the Resources and Links section of our web site;
- Apply for applicable grants. For example, Muskoka members
of the Retired Teachers of Ontario were successful in their
application to the Provincial RTO/ERO program – Service
To Others. The members secured a $4 000.00 grant for Harambee
4 Humanity.
